Newport-Mesa Provides Free Grab-and-Go Lunches During School Closure
Posted 3/19/20

During the first week of campuses being closed, Newport-Mesa Unified School District (NMUSD) served nearly 5,000 meals to students, with another 2,000 meals expected to be served on Friday. Like nearly all districts in the state, NMUSD closed campuses to prevent a COVID-19 spread into our schools. However, nutrition services has remained steadfast to ensure that all kids in our district have access to free lunches.

“We are school lunch heroes,” said Director of Nutrition Services Dale Ellis. “We have an amazing team doing extraordinary work every day – especially during this uncertain time in our history,” she said.

Families have been picking up Grab-and-Go lunches, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm, Monday through Friday, for students 18 or younger. Lunches are picked up at the front of the school. Visit the Nutrition Services Web Page for a list of distribution locations.

The district continues to abide by food safety and sanitation practices, as well as increasing hand washing and social distancing.
